(Scot), A New Edition With The Regimental Portion Brought Down To The Present Time From Official Sources by William Melven, M.A., Glasgow, illustrated, London: William Mackenzie, 69 Ludgate Hill, Edinburgh And Glasgow. a two-volume set, 3/4 bound, with five raised bands, gilt titles with six gilt compartments and gilt devices on the spine, blank endpapers with the bookplate of Roderick Dow, an engraved frontis of Balmoral, the title page followed by the Contents Of Volume I and a List of Plates and 776 pages of text and illustrations for Volume I, and Volume II has a colored frontis showing a map of the districts of the Highland Clans of Scotland, a Contents page after the title page and beautiful colored plates of the different tartans in Volume II, and 914 pages of text, including the Index, in Volume II, and all the edges are gilt, circa 1885.
Both volumes are 10 1/4 x 7 1/2 in. wide, and the title page and front endpapers on Volume I have light foxing, while the rest of the pages and plates in both volumes are very clean, the joints and binding are tight and secure, with light rubbing and wear at the crown and heel and light fading at the top of both volumes, and an attractive set for someone who wants to know more about Scottish history and ancestry.
