Condition
Ink on tan paper. The right edge of the sheet was torn irregularly, presumably by the artist. There is light, time, and mat staining to the sheet. There are hard and soft handling creases with minor tears to the perimeter of the sheet. No further condition issues to report.
In a gilt gesso decorated thin wood frame with silk mat and gilt filet. The silk matting torn and lifting in areas and should be replaced.
The handwriting and collector's stamp on the reverse is that of Albert Rutherston, confirmed through Rebecca John and the Rutherston estate. Albert and his brother William (nee Rothenstein) Rutherston were both close friends at the Slade with Augustus and Gwen John in the 1890s. The figure in the lower right may depict Albert.
