Description
Neapolitan school of the 18th century.
"Angel".
Carved and polychrome wood.
It presents faults in the carving and leaps in the polychromy.
Measurements: 19 x 12,5 x 8.5 cm.
Sculpture in carved and polychromed wood of a devotional nature. The piece reproduces the figure of a small angel, with its hands raised, dressed only with its wings that stand out for the colouring that they still preserve. The aesthetic treatment of the figure, despite the faults caused by the passage of time, is notable for the movement achieved by the artist thanks to the turning of the muscles. The body has been captured realistically by basing the forms on the rounded body of an infant. The Neapolitan school of the 17th century enjoyed a spectacular development, leaving behind the splendour of the previous century and progressing within a clearly identifiable, fully Baroque style. It is characterised by an interest in movement and vibrant colours. Neapolitan Baroque sculpture shows a marked taste for naturalism, a trend to which this sculpture belongs.
