Description
Spanish school, 17th century.
"Infant Jesus Salvator Mundi".
Carved and polychrome wood.
Faults in the carving. Remains of xylophages.
Measurements: 40 x 20 x 11 cm.
Baroque carving, probably Andalusian, in polychrome wood representing the Child Jesus in full body, naked. The posture he adopts is close to the typology of the Triumphant Child, Saviour of the World, which symbolises the idea of Jesus as man and saviour, lord of the whole Earth, which he redeems with his death and resurrection. It is an iconography that combines divine power and grace with the happy innocence and humble condition of God incarnate. This figuration is also characterised by the gesture of blessing and the absence of any trace of pain.
