Item Details

Description

Great quarter-plate sized ambrotype of an unknown Confederate infantryman. He is armed with a very large bowie knife which appears to be attached to his belt, and holds what appears to be a double-barreled shotgun. He wears what is likely a butternut colored shell jacket that features a dark or black trip, with a matching kepi. This configuration is frequently seen in images of Virginia soldiers, although not exclusively. His belt features a rectangular brass plate; we cannot make out the details but it may feature a state seal.

The image is in good condition, with some solarization and spotting. It is housed in half of a leatherette case.
