Description
Wonderful 19th c. broadside advertising Mr. Albert Walker, a “world renowned” magician, ventriloquist and necromancer from Hartford, Connecticut. The broadside is filled with colorful language describing the various components of his act, including a “Punch and Judy” puppet show, card tricks, disappearing acts, ventriloquist scenes, and speaking with the dead.
Walker was a “jack of all trades” before taking his act on the road in the 1850s. While not particularly well-known during his time, Walker’s legacy is preserved for future generations: he magician kit and personal diaries are currently on display at the Connecticut Historical Society. The broadside is in excellent condition; various lines to be filled in are blank, which suggests it was never used.
Measures ~ 26 x 10
[Broadside, Poster, Paper Ephemera, Magic, Magician, Harry Houdini, Civil War Era]
