Originally listed at $300
Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chancay, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. A set of 2 pottery artifacts from the ancient Chancay. First is an abstract, mold-formed standing figure with large eyes, clawed feet, and a bicorn helmet. Next is a gourd-shaped bottle with 2 perforated suspension loops as well as creamy yellow bands and spots adorning the orange-red, stone-burnished ground. Size of largest (vessel): 4.9" Diameter x 8.3" H (12.4 cm x 21.1 cm)
Provenance: ex-Nancy and Dr. E.F. Simpson collection, Los Angeles, California, USA, acquired from 1970 to 2000

Condition
Restoration and overpainting to areas of neck ring and upper body of vessel, with resurfacing along new material and pigment. Loss to one arm and areas to base of figure as shown. Both pieces have light abrasions, minor encrustations, and fading to pigment. Nice preservation to overall forms. Old inventory label beneath base of vessel.
