Description
Two Surinamese Maroon wood panel carvings, each hand-carved with intricate geometric knot designs, remnants of old paper labels to reverse. 59.25" H x 7.75" W. Note: The Maroon people are descendants of West African slaves forcibly brought to South America prior to the nineteenth century. After freeing themselves from slavery, the Maroons established communities in the rainforests of Dutch and French Guiana.
