Description
POCKET DIARY 1898THEODORE ROOSEVELT'S PRIVATE ACCOUNT OF THE WAR WITH SPAINA FACSIMILE EDITION OF THE MANUSCRIPT ACCOMPANIED BY EXTRACTSFROM HIS PUBLISHED RECOLLECTIONS AND ILLUSTRATED WITH PHOTOGRAPHSCambridge, Massachusetts: Harvard College Library/The Houghton Library, 1998This special limited edition volume illustrates every page from TR's Rough Rider diary along with a printed transcription of the daily entries. This handsome volume also contains numerous historic photographs of TR and his regiment in Texas, Florida, and Cuba. It was issued by Harvard Library in 1998 to commemorate the centennial of the Spanish-American War. The cloth edition was limited to one hundred numbered and signed copies. Each of those cloth copies contains the signatures of three individuals: Wallace Finley Daily, the book's editor; historian John Morton Blum (1921-2011), who wrote the introduction; and TR's great grandson, Tweed Roosevelt. "The purpose of this publication is modest," Daily told the Boston Globe in 1998. "[It's] to present the diary text in the context of Roosevelt's fully realized but considerably more circumspect history of the events so tersely noted here."
