Description
This is a very interesting Japanese cast bronze sculpture, possibly used as a censer (container for burning incense). Incense could be burnt either in the mouth of the Foo lion, or inside of the ball it rests on. It is in the form of a Shishi (foo dog, foo lion, or guardian lion) with a leg raised and resting on an openwork brocade ornate ball. There is a makers mark embossed on the belly of the Foo lion. Estimated to be from the early 1900s Japan. The piece is in 2 parts, with the ball being separate from the dog. Roughly 21 inches wide, 15.5 inches at the highest point, roughly 7 inches deep. It weighs 18 pounds. **Shipping on this item offered through, UPS (843) 203-3466 store7194@theupsstore.com, Pak Mail 843-849-0310 - info@charlestonshipping.com or Quik Mail Etc 843-723-6598 quikmailetc@gmail.com Please contact one of them or your own choice of shipper directly.
