Description
The lot features a fantastic early circa 1850-1870 French Spontoon blade trade dag knife from the ex-collection of Dan Wasko; Tulsa Gun Show. The piece exhibits a late 18th Century to early 19th Century French Spontoon blade top having a classic pattern with median ridge running down the center of the blade and upward curled basal processes. Most early Spontoon’s such as this were crafted into tomahawk war clubs with this piece being a scarcely seen unusual dag fighting knife / trade knife. The knife shows an old original antler handler secured with single iron pins and wraps of parfleche rawhide. This is truly a fantastic and rare example. Provenance: From the ex-collection of Dan Wasko purchased at the Tulsa Gun Show and a large Ohio Native American private collection. Good condition with no wiggle / no looseness to the blade. Measures overall 10.75”L by 1 5/8” at its widest point.
