Description
First time at auction…
East Asia, Southern China / Tibet, Lepcha or Miao Culture, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A useful sterling silver chatelaine chain containing several personal hygiene tools- including tweezers, nail or toothpick, and an ear scoop / swab. While primarily used for grooming, these tools could certainly be used for other needs as well- such as betel nut extraction and pipe cleaning - hopefully each tool was cleaned before use! While intended as a belt accessory one could potentially wear this as a choker necklace, but it is recommended for display due to the length. Size of chain: 18" L (45.7 cm); tweezer: 2" L x 0.5" W (5.1 cm x 1.3 cm) silver quality: 93% to 97%; weight: 129.8 grams
Provenance: private Akron, Ohio, USA collection
