Description
(1887 - 1975) Chinese general and politician who led Chinese forces against the Japanese in World War II. His Nationalist forces resisted the communists under Mao, but were eventually defeated and established a new government on Formosa (Taiwan). S.P., 7 x 9.5 in. b/w, a wire photo of Kai-Shek and his wife. He signs in Chinese characters at right, dated Dec. 2, 1968 on the verso. The text accompanying the photo explains that it was taken the previous October during a rare public appearance on the balcony of the Taipei Presidential Palace. It goes on to say that: ‘...many observers view his desire to return as a conqueror as a lost cause...’ Fine.
