Rey Paz Contreras (Filipino, b. 1950). Mixed media sculpture depicting a woman, 2003. From an assemblage of discarded century-old molave wood, texturized stainless steel, shells and other indigenous materials. Serial number 2003-137.
The sculpture "Mandaya Woman" is designed and created by Filipino ethnic-inspired sculptor Rey Paz Contreras as part of his Sacred Lano Series. The Sacred Lano Series pays homage to the role of the peasants and freedom fighters in the countryside, a people's art oriented to serve the people and to protect the Lano. It is an artist statement towards the advancement of Filipino people's art.
