Rare Steuben Mirror Black Intarsia Glass Vase, circa 1929 6-3/4 inches (17.1 cm) Intarsia glass was one of the crowning technical achievements of Carder’s time at Steuben. These works consist of three very fine layers, two colorless and one interior layer featuring a foliate motif. Due to the technical complexity and delicacy of the process, only gaffer Johnny Jansson was able to create them, and it is estimated only forty Intarsia works were ever produced. The present example is unsigned, which indicates that it was either a trial or not produced for commercial sale. Vase (shape 7050) with swirling mirror black foliate motif between two layers of crystal glass. In overall good condition, with no chips, cracks, or restoration observed. One very minor area of scuffing to lower body, only visible on close inspection.
