North Pacific, Hawaiian Islands, ca. 18th to 19th century CE. A collection of 13 whale bone tools and a whale tooth displayed in a modern case. The bones are cut and sharpened into awls or needle-like points and may have functioned as fishing hooks as part of an octopus lure. The tooth is a petite size with a partial drill hole through the side, but not completed, and may have been intended to serve as a pendant. Size (largest bone): 3.3" L x 0.5" W (8.4 cm x 1.3 cm); (case): 8.5" L x 6.25" W (21.6 cm x 15.9 cm)
This is an ESA antique exempt piece of ivory and cannot be sold internationally or to anyone residing in the states of California, Hawaii, Illinois, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, and Washington. We guarantee that the piece was made prior to 1972.
