South Pacific, Hawaii, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. A skillfully hand-carved wooden tool used to pound meat, featuring a long tubular handle and an ovoid head, flat on top and bottom and incised with 10 horizontal striations on its shorter sides to form ribs. The handle is slightly flared at its base and drilled horizontally. Boasting a high burnish and a gorgeous natural woodgrain in hues of caramel and chocolate brown, this tool serves as an excellent example from Hawaiian culture. Size: 11.375" L x 3.5" W (28.9 cm x 8.9 cm)
