North Pacific, Hawaiian Islands, ca. late 20th to early 21st century CE. Stamped "LARRY'S KOA CARVINGS / P.O. Box 185 / Honokaa, HI 96727," "KOA," and "CUSTOM CRAFTED / By LARRY DeLUZ" on base. A beautiful bowl, skillfully hand-carved from wood of the flowering Acacia Koa tree. Interestingly, in the Hawaiian language, the word koa means "fearless warrior." Boasting a natural woodgrain surface in rich hues of golden caramel and butterscotch, the lovely dish presents a flat base, a wide hip, and a circular rim that gently curves inward. A lustrous burnish envelops the exterior of this fine example from Hawaiian culture! Size: 6.3" Diameter x 3.3" H (16 cm x 8.4 cm)
