Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 4th century CE. A pottery intaglio bead impressed with a pair of feminine figures upon the ovoid face. A suspension hole is drilled lengthwise through the center. Two women in profile face each other, one standing presenting a vegetal stalk - perhaps wheat - to the other woman seated on a chair. A double-bladed axe is centered above the figures - a sacred symbol that was popular in ancient Greece and the Roman empire. Size: 1.3" L x 1" W (3.3 cm x 2.5 cm)
