Description
Carved wooden helmet style mask embellished with hammered copper, beads, shells and woven grass textiles . Such masks were worn during male initiation ceremonies known as "nkaan". A mask like the one shown known as bwoom is danced; the performance is used to teach initiates about Kuba history, cultural values and to instil an appreciation for Woot, the founding father and ancestor of all Kuba kings. The Mask measures 18 inches tall ( 24 inches when adding chin strap) A metal display stand can also be included for an additional $50.00. Provenance:
