Description
An old wooden helmet mask embellished with old glass beads, cowrie shells and animal hide. The mask has large areas of hammered copper sheet and incised designs in the wood. Bwoom’s specific identity varies according to different versions of the myth. He may represent the king’s younger brother, a person of Twa descent, or a commoner. The Bwoom masquerade is often performed in conflict with the masked figure representing Woot. Kuba peoples, DRC/ Congo, Africa. The mask measures 14.75 inches tall. A metal display stand can also be included for an additional $50.00. Provenance: A Private New Jersey collection.

fair, weathered, the animal hide is dry and decayed.
