Publication Date: 1962 Binding: Hardcover Edited, with Preface and biographical essay of the author, by Allan Nevins. Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust jacket condition: Fair Rubbing and minor shelf wear head and tail of spine; corners slightly rubbed. First printing stated. Gilt lettering on dark blue cloth boards; monogram of author on front cover. Front endpapers show b/w engraving of Grand Army of the Republic on parade in Washington DC. Back endpapers show b/w photograph of steamboat U.S. Hospital. Illustrated throughout with historic b/w photographs. Binding and hinges sound. George T. Strong (1820-1875) was resident of New York City, lawyer and co-founder of New York Sanitary Commission during Civil War. Beginning 1835, he diligently kept a diary throughout his life. This volume consists of excerpts from that diary from the period 1860-1865.
