Description
Piranhas When You're Sleeping is a Screenprint in colours on Saunders Waterford paper. Signed, dated and numbered 35 out of 50 in pencil. Published by Pace Prints, New York. Before selling out gallery shows, street artist KAWS, born Brian Donnelly, was catching tags, painting billboards, and doing roller-painted throw-ups throughout New York City. He gained mainstream recognition when he altered wheat paste advertisements with his signature Skull characters. Today, the artist's work ranges from rare vinyl toys to re-contextualised pop cultural imagery of The Simpsons, SpongeBob SquarePants, and Snoopy. Piranhas When You're Sleeping is one of the largest prints the artist has produced and was released during Art Basel Miami in 2016. To no surprise, the work sold out immediately and signalled the inevitable rise of KAWS' legendary status in the art world.Provenance as follows: Private Collector, New York: Private Collection, Stockholm. Previously sold for $54,000usd
