Description
LOW RESERVE. (1) Dollar, 1982 is a Screenprint by Andy Warhol. Signed and numbered 32 of 60. Published by Andy Warhol, New York. Featured in Raisonne: Feldman/Schellmann, II.278. No other series reflect mass identity, luxury and wealth as prominently as Andy Warhol’s Dollar Sign Portfolios from 1982. The prints from this series are recognisable for repeatedly featuring the American dollar sign in neon bright colours. Each reiteration of the image showcases vibrant colours to enhance the visual impact of the monetary symbol. The source image for this series was created by Andy Warhol himself as he didn’t find a readymade image of the dollar sign that produced the same dramatic effect. To do so, he returned to his origins as a draughtsman created the large dollar signs by hand. Essentially, he created a Warholian currency that was also unique to his artistic identity. Previous editions have sold recently for around $80,000usd. Provenance as follows: New York Private Collector, San Francisco Private Collector, Munich Private Collector.
Condition
All Screenprint colours are tremendously bright, particularly the Red ink, which is highly reflective. The Black is still very bold & deep. No scuffs or chips on any of the screen print. The paper has no obvious signs of marks of foxing
