Description
Native American, Southwestern United States, New Mexico or Northern Mexico, Playas Valley, Paquime / Casas Grandes or Mogollon culture, ca. 1150 to 1450 CE. A fine Playas style redware vessel in the form of a parrot! The rounded body is slightly carinated with tab shaped wings and tail extending from the shoulders. At the front is a projecting head with a cartoonishly open mouth and rounded eyes as if the bird is mid squawk. Upon the back is a flared rim and the burnished surface is slipped in a russet-orange hue. Size: 9.5" Diameter x 6" H (24.1 cm x 15.2 cm)

Provenance: private Denver collection, USA, by inheritance before 2000 from the Harry Tammen Family collection, former owner of the Denver Post
