Description
Betty Quezada (Mata Ortiz / Casas Grandes, active 20th to 21st century). Polychrome jar, n.d. Signed on underside of base. A beautiful pottery jar sitting upon a narrow base with thin walls that eventually span outward to a broad, rounded shoulder and an inward-curving rim. Enveloped in a creamy beige slip, the exterior of the vessel is meticulously hand-painted with linear, lattice, and geometric patterns in hues of black and burnt sienna. Elizabeth Quintana married Noe Quezada and "Betty Quezada" came into being. Noe is the son of Juan Quezada Sr., and he makes pottery very similar to that of his illustrious father. Noe and Betty work together and separately, she creating her own masterpieces in the Quezada style. Size: 8.3" Diameter x 6.2" H (21.1 cm x 15.7 cm); 6.7" H (17 cm) on included custom stand.
