Description
A collection of carved wooden dolls, many with incised linear designs and classic treatment to the overall forms. Such dolls are known as "Bigga" locally, and were often considered training aids for young girls to care for their future children, and later in life they were sometimes used as fertility aids. Mossi peoples, Burkina faso, West Africa. The tallest doll measure 14 inches tall, the shortest is 6 inches tall. Provenance: Prof. Morris of Perdue University, this collection was amassed over 30 years starting in the 1970's.
