1834 Japanese Samurai Katana Woodblock New Blade Shinto Bengi Ryaku Mabire Sword
An interesting Edo and Meiji woodblock-print of New Blade. "Shintobengiryaku" is a study on Japanese swords published in 1834 Kamata Mabire, Kamata Nataes son, a samurai and a sword researcher in the late Edo period. Nataes work is renown among Japanese sword enthusiasts as one of the original works for swords that helped define what distinguished a new sword from an old sword.
This rare 1834 first edition is written in a column handwritten format. This edition contains excellent illustrations throughout of different blades masters as well as the hamon, the pattern created along the edge of the blade in its finale quenching, often considered the most important part of the blade!
