Description
Two Japanese woodblock prints by noted sosaku-hanga artist Toshi Yoshida (Japanese, 1911 - 1995). One is "Irozaki Morning" and the other "Shrine of the Paper-Makers, Fukui". Ca. 1930s - 1951. Pencil signed by Yoshida. Yoshida's approach in these two works is different from traditional woodblock prints in his use of more subtle changes in color and shading, and a more naturalistic style. Both prints are matted and framed. Not examined out of frames. Excellent condition, good colors. Minor wear on frames. Measurements: Irozaki Morning - 14 1/4" wide by 10 3/8" tall (matted); 19" wide by 15 3/8" tall by 3/4" deep. Shrine of the Paper-Makers, Fukui - 10 1/4" wide by 15 3/8" tall (matted); 16 1/8" wide by about 21 1/4" tall by 7/8" deep.Provenance: many pieces in this collection were purchased by the collector from Toshi Yoshida himself. Keywords: art, artwork, Asia, Asian, ukiyo-e, ukiyo e, ukiyoe, woodcut, decor, decoration, Hiroshi, Kiso, shin hanga
