Item Details

Description

Two gouache on paper paintings of United States battleships by noted marine painter Worden G. Wood (NY, 1880 - 1943). "U.S.S. Maryland, Battleship" and "U.S. Aeroplane Carrier Saratoga" (1931). Both ships saw much distinguished service in the Second World War, with the Maryland present at the Bombing of Pearl Harbor and the Invasion of Okinawa, and the Saratoga at Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima. Both paintings are matted and framed. Both also have labels and accession numbers from the Yale University Art Gallery. Condition: paintings themselves look to be in good condition, though not examined outside of the frame. The mattes have foxing and staining, and the frames have wear.
