Description
British Art Deco burl maple and sycamore veneered two-door cabinet, in the manner of the Epstein Brothers (active London, 1920/1960s) the top with parquetry veneer to edges, over two burlwood doors with satinwood stringing and antiqued brass pulls above a long drawer on tapering reeded legs. 45" H x 32" W x 14" D Note: The Art Deco furniture produced in London's East End by the Epstein Brothers is synonymous with the style of interwar London. The Epsteins were Polish immigrants to 1890s East London. After 1925, most of their furniture items were custom made from burr maple, sycamore or walnut veneer. By the end of the Second World War, they had showrooms in London, Manchester, and Glasgow. Their trademark style became conservative Art Deco with most of their pieces being made from bleached walnut. Later work from 1960s can be labelled ‘Epstein & Goldman’ or ‘H & L Epstein.’
