An assembled group of six Chippendale carved mahogany and walnut side chairs Philadelphia, PA, late 18th century

Comprising two side chairs with gothic splats and cabriole legs on ball-and-claw feet; a pair of ribbon-back side chairs, on straight legs with stretchers; and two side chairs with shaped crests and pierced splats, on straight legs with stretchers.

overall in nice, stable condition with signs of expected wear commensurate with age and use; some chairs with new and/or reinforced blocks; the pair of ribbon-back chairs with later wood support strip added to back seat rail for support; chair with scrolled ears: overall with nice, patinated surface, the slip seat with some sag; occasional minor scuffing throughout, age cracks; one chair with gothic splat and ball and claw feet: a few mends to splat and one area of loss to back of crest (piece missing), back blocks replaced and front right-facing black reinforced / pinned with fill evident, back left-facing leg with repaired / reinforced break or crack, evidence of probable re-pinning on back legs to frame for additional support and reinforcement of tenons, a few minor mends to splat and crest; other chair with gothic splat and ball and claw feet: reinforced tenons- appear to be reattached at some point, with stabilized crack to back left-facing leg, some fill evident, a few mends to crest and splat; chair with shaped crest and straight legs with shaped apron: a few mends to crest and splat, a repaired break to left-facing stile at top, to stile join at back left-facing frame, and to shoe, a couple age splits along front two corners of frame; upholstery showing various degrees of wear and staining from use
