Description
A RARE JAPANESE PORCELAIN VASE, MIYAGAWA KOZAN, C1900-1910. In the form of two polar bears in a cave with thick drips of white glazed icicles pooling into translucent glaze at the tips in places leading into turquoise streams over the brown glazed rocks. Two-character mark to base in double ring. 22.2cm tall. 15.9cm diam. Ref: See an almost identical vase in the Victoria and Albert Museum, described as inspired by contemporaneous works sold, at very high prices, by the Royal Copenhagen Manufactory.Three icicle tips damaged. One icicle with repair.Provenance: Property of a local lady, inherited from her grandmother. Presumed to be gifted to the vendor's grandmother for her wedding in 1910.
