Description
Army General James M. Gavin Signed Card & Paper. You will receive the following 2 items: a 3 x 5 inch signed card. The card has a remnant of a paper clip that does not affect the signature. The 1958 paper has been placed in a permanent hard plastic cover most likely due to the tear at the bottom (See photo of letter). It still has the original Gavin signature. James Maurice Gavin (March 22, 1907 – February 23, 1990), sometimes called "Jumpin' Jim" and "the jumping general", was a senior US Army Officer with the rank of Lieutenant General who was the third Commanding General of the 82nd Airborne Division during WWII. During the war, he was often referred to as "The Jumping General" because of his practice of taking part in combat jumps with the paratroopers under his command; he was the only American general officer to make four combat jumps in the war. Gavin was the youngest Major General to command an American division in World War II.
