Description
This haunting mid century serigraph is by important and noted Wisconsin artist Dean Jackson Meeker. It is titled "Surgeon" and depicts a eyeless 1950's surgeon in scrubbs in the opereating room. It measures 33" tall X 21.5" across. It is an artist proof and signed in the lower right corner in pencil. Meeker was an influential and innovative printmaker. He was the first printmaker to overprint silkscreens with polymer intaglio, giving his works a 3 Dimensional quality. He was the co-inventor of the Meeker-McFee motorized etching press. He taught Silkscreening at University of Wisconsin Madison for 46 years. He was a 1959 recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship. His Sculptures, paintings and prints are in over 100 important world collections to include New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Gallery in Washington DC, the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, just to name a few.
