Description
A lot of four vintage Russian lacquer trinket boxes of square and octagonal shape with hinged lids. Each item is black with a hand-painted decorative folklore scene on the lid, the inside is painted red. Designs include depictions of an Orthodox church, a young couple with a yoke, a girl picking berries signed Malinka, Raspberry, a young man catching fish with his hands signed Mstyora, Emelya. Mstyora is a settlement in Vladimir Oblast and a center of local lacquer and icon-painting traditions. Emelya the Simpleton is a character of Russian fairytales.
