Description
Male and female 'Inginga' type human figures, the large heads with flattened facial plane with protruding eyes, long narrow triangular nose, small slit mouths. The bodies are carved with undersized arms, the short legs bent at the knees and with large feet. The male figure wth a groove in the center of the chest and with prominent phallus; this figure especially showing signs of handling, with a somewhat encrusted surface. The female figure with touch-wear especially at the top of the head. Approx. 7 1/2" and 8" H. Provenance: Estate of Thomas McNemar, (1931-2020.) McNemar lived and collected throughout Central and West Africa in the 1960s and 70s. He established galleries of African Art in New York and San Francisco, selling to museums and public and private collections in the United States and Europe.
