Description

Samuel Rogers Extensive British Bond Archive, 42 Bonds + Related Materials!

An extensive archive relating to the death of British citizen, Samuel Rogers, who left a significant estate of Bank Annuities and other documents with no will. All of the documents have flattened folds or creases, with varying degrees of chipping and small tears at the edges. Varying degrees of toning, soiling, foxing, and dampstaining throughout. Please refer to the photographs for condition information.

The group consists of 42 Reduced £3 per Cent Annuities Bonds, all made out to Samuel Rogers for various amounts, dating from April 27, 1797 to October 20, 1812. Also included are various receipts and business papers of Rogers, as well as letters, legal documents, and other papers concerning the appraisal and distribution of the estate. Many of the letters concern John Rogers Lang, who was the grandson of Roger's sister and the determined next of kin. Through lengthy legal proceedings, Lang was awarded £8,348 9 shillings 8 pence, which amounts to approximately £794,960 or $886,619 today. Also accompanying the archive are two seemingly unrelated signed bonds dated 1622 and 1696, which may require further research by interested parties!
