Description

LARGE JAPANESE BRONZE CENSER, MEIJI. Comprising a large and impressive bronze censer resting on round base with incised leaf tip border upon which rests a pierced three-legged stand modeled as blossoming flowers with songbirds, supporting the traditional urn form body with relief sculpted songbirds amongst blossoming tree branches on one side, and water cranes on the other. The shoulders set with anthropomorphic scroll handles beneath a vented rim and fitted lid with coiled dragon. Height 23.75 inches (63cm).
