Description
Double-spouted, white ceramic pitcher recovered from the S.S. Central America. It is 11 inches tall, 5.25 inches in diameter at the base, and 6 inches in diameter at the widest. Spout-to-spout distance is 5.5 inches. The design is a 10-sided body. Hallmark on the base shows the British royal seal with // IRONSTONE CHINA / J.F. // beneath it. This refers to Jacob Furnval. This piece may have been purchased as part of the initial outfitting of the ship for its maiden voyage in October 1853 as the S.S. George Law, the original name for the S.S. Central America. This piece is in nearly pristine condition except for the iron-stain splotches it acquired from being on the seafloor for more than a century, and a small chip on one side between the spouts.Date: 1857Country (if not USA): State: City: Provenance: SS Central America CollectionVideo of Recovery:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFeDL1WDc90
