Description
1859 Japanese Beautiful Women Samurai Tokugawa Bakufu Ukiyoe Gesaku Geisha
A rare, 19th century Japanese woodblock print of “Kinsei Bijinroku” an ukiyo-e graphic novel often called kusazoshi. Written by famous gesaku artist, Santo Kyozan, one of the many pen names of Iwase Momoki. Kyozans works were affected by the shifting publication laws of the Kansei Reforms aimed at punishing writers and publishers for writings related to the Yoshiwara, red light district, or anything considered "harmful to society" at the time by the Tokugawa Bakufu.
This volume 16 part 2 of Kinsei Bijinroku is written in a column woodblock print format with furigana for easier reading with illustrations throughout and color illustrations on the covers with images of courtesans, geisha, samurai, and more.
