Artist Bio: Evgeny Mokhorev was born in Leningrad, currently known as St. Petersburg, Russia, in the year 1967. A childhood fascination of photography led him to pursue a career in the field. He started his career in 1986, later joining the Russian photo club "Mirror" in 1988, also known as "Zerkalo". Here he met Alexey Titarenko and other notable photographers. Mokhorev seeks to explore childhood and adolescence in his work, and the transition to adulthood. His style is said to depict the "Russian soul" through urban landscapes captured in black and white. His first solo exhibition outside the Soviet Union took place at the Mois de la Photo Festival in Paris in 1992, where he showed his series Games Children Play. He has been a member of the Union of Photographers of Russia since 1992 and a member of the Union of Russian Artists since 1997. The First Russian Photo Festival took place in 1993, where Mokhorev won the "Discovery of the Year" award. He has received numerous grants for his work from the government. His work has been displayed at several prominent institutions including the Museum of History of Photography in St. Petersburg, the Nailya Alexander Gallery in New York, and the Museum of Fine Arts in New Mexico. He currently sill works and resides in St. Petersburg.
