Description
(Netherlands, 1620 - 1691) Old Master School oil on canvas cattle at rest in hill country signed lower middle left. The work has been exceptionally rendered. Very well detailed cattle and landscape. The work is a very close rendition which is found in the National Gallery titled Herdsmen Tending Cattle 1655/1660. The work features the animals and figure looking in the opposite direction. The piece has an early conservation of the canvas looking to date to the 18th or 19th century. The paint in this work has been examined by Susan Buck Phd and does date to the 1650s in general with an exception of one tone of blue which dates to 1700 or later. Frame is likely 18th century or earlier H25" W31" (canvas size only) Framed: H35 1/2" W43" Sold from the collection of a South Carolina gentleman and diplomat and purchased by this owner from the collection of Alfred Bader.
