VIRGINIA MERCHANT'S STENCILED STONEWARE JAR, salt-glazed, designated one-and-one-half gallon capacity, cylindrical form with slight shoulder, flat-top rounded rim, beaded neck ring, Albany-slip glazed interior. Stenciled cobalt "E.J. MILLER & SON. / DEALERS IN / CHINA AND GLASS / WARE. / ALEXANDRIA, VA.", additional brushed cobalt stripes and wavy line decorations. James Hamilton, Greensboro, PA for Elisha Janney Miller (1827-1895), Alexandria, VA. Circa 1875. 11 1/8" H, 7" D rim.
