In search of an art“rooted in the Africa soil” Preller drew his initial inspiration from theNdebele (Mapogga) people, who lived in the Pretoria vicinity, where hespent most of his professional life. Preller is today regarded as animportant figure in the South African avant-garde movement of histime, and as an African modernist.
