Description
This is a fascinating map centered on Belgrade. It depicts the Siege of Belgrade from 1716 to 1717, which occurred during the Austro-Hungarian-Venetian-Ottoman war. The battle ended on August 17, 1717 with Belgrade, an important stronghold for the Ottoman Empire, falling into Austrian control. The main map depicts the region with Belgrade at left, Temeswar (Temesvar) at top, and the Danube River flowing through the center. The military movement of the troops are shown. The map features 9 insets: the battle plans of the Siege of Belgrade and the Battle of Peterwardein (Petrovaradin), and bird's-eye views of the fortifications of Temeswar, Belgrade, Semendria, Pancsova, Sabatz, Vipalanka and Orsava. There is a very large amount of detail offered as to topography, rivers, forests, town, cities, etc.
