Hinshelwood's typed statement in response appears below and states, in full, 'The generous and far sighted provision of Alfred Nobel has set the standard for scientific achievement throughout the world and the honour which his name confers is an inspiration to all who work in science. Naturally this is felt and appreciated with gratitude by all those who have been fortunate enough to become Nobel Laureates.
