East Asia, China, Han Dynasty, ca. 206 BCE to 220 CE; Song Dynasty, ca. 960 to 1279 CE. A wonderful pair of pottery pieces: a bowl from the Song Dynasty and a dog votive from the Han Dynasty. Enveloped in a creamy white glaze, the bowl sits upon a ring-form foot displaying a hemispherical body, a gently flared rim, and an incised floral design on its interior basin. Alternatively, the hollow, mold-made dog is shown seated with head raised, exhibiting a slender build, a puffed chest, a projecting snout, and folded ears. Size of larger: 8.4" Diameter x 3" H (21.3 cm x 7.6 cm)

Provenance: ex-Nancy and Dr. E.F. Simpson collection, Los Angeles, California, USA, acquired from 1970 to 2000

Head of dog reattached with restoration over break lines. Both have some chipping, as well as nicks and abrasions as shown. Otherwise, bowl is intact, and both are very nice. Great remaining detail to design on bowl and light earthen deposits on dog.
