Description
105 A.D. Rome mint. Obv: IMP CAES NERVAE TRAIANO AVG GER DAC P M TR P COS V P P legend with laureate bust right. Rev: S P Q R OPTIMO PRINCIPI legend with arched single span bridge over river with anchored boat below, the covered walkway segmented with statuary to each end, steps at right; SC below. RIC 569; BMC 849; Sear 3207. 27.48 grams. Property of a North London gentleman. The bridge shown is frequently associated with that built over the Danube in 104 AD but the depiction bears little resemblance to that shown on Trajan's Column; other opinions suggest the Pons Sublicius bridge in Rome as being perhaps a more likely candidate.
