Description
A Moche Blackware Vessel Peru, c. 100 BC - 500 AD Depicts an elder with drooping cheeks, wearing a large nose ornament covering the mouth and chin. Dressed in a tight-fitting hood with straps hanging down the back. A stirrup handle with spout at back. The hollow blackware vessel has a highly burnished black slip. In very good condition, no apparent repairs or restorations, the burnished surface with minor flaked areas and scratches. Sticker on bottom reads: "Exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago / 70-a". And another reads: "The Art Institute of Chicago" and is has the number 51. Provenance: Property from the M. Louise Beren Revocable Trust Exhibited: Wichita Art Museum, Wichita, KS Height: 9 ½ inches
